Why did I create this program?

I built this program for wind and brass musicians who feel stuck, tense, restricted, or disconnected from their breath. This isn’t another “take a deep breath” cue. This is a research-backed, 4-week routine designed to help you:

  • Reduce tension in the ribcage and pelvis

  • Improve overall alignment and movement

  • Unlock full, 360° cylindrical expansion that will allow you to access easier breathing and healthy support, and set the foundation for more advanced breathing training principles.

How is this program different from other programs?

Unlike other programs, this one revolves around getting out of our own way and letting our bodies figure out what they need to do.

This isn't about controlling our posture, forcing inhalation or exhalation, overtraining, or "correcting" bad habits. Our bodies are simply responding to the environment in the best way they can. If we meet our bodies where they're at and provide a different stimulus, we can create an adaptation in the direction we want  - towards ease, comfort, and expansion.

  • Improved alignment by accessing the stack, allowing for better movement and airflow

  • Regain access to your breath! aka expansion in all directions simultaneously in the ribcage and abdomen.

  • Learn, feel, and integrate sustainable, healthy support

  • Build knowledge: Mini-lessons connect each drill to anatomy, pedagogy & performance, allowing you to make multiple connections and improve different areas of your life.

  • Develop a deeper level of body awareness, anatomical mapping, and specific practice techniques you can use to prepare yourself for rehearsals or performance.

  • Outline complex concepts simply, catering to a variety of learning and personality styles, creating a more holistic and engaging experiential program.

Program Goals

Conor, Trombonist

"I find that now I can take easier, tension-free breaths that allow me to take the focus and anxiety away from breathing. In addition, in my daily life, whenever I feel tense or anxious, I can return to exercises and reconnect with easy, supportive, and effortless breathing.

Who is This For?

  • Wind & brass players who feel tight, stuck, or tense in their breathing.

  • Musicians who struggle with traditional breathing drills like the breathing gym or an overactive “Valsalva maneuver”

  • Performers who want to develop a tension-free breath, supportive posture, and more effortless sound

  • People are ready to commit to 10-15 mindful minutes a day on these exercises.

  • Those excited to shape the future of this program and be part of a community that wants to learn, grow, and support each other.

John F., Trombonist

Finally, a program for musicians that approaches the breath from a physiologically correct understanding of how the breathing mechanism functions.

I believe every college player, professional, and everyone 50 years or older would benefit from this program.

Who is this not for?

  • Anyone in acute pain or post-surgery (unless cleared by a provider)

  • Those seeking a “quick fix” without consistent effort - breathing a skill!

  • Folks expecting a "breathing-gym" experience

  • Musicians under 18 without guardian permission

  • Those who don't want to develop an easier, more efficient, and more supportive breath that can positively impact all areas of life.

  • Those who aren't willing to try new concepts or put in around 10-15 minutes per day.
